| Early superstitions forbade women to travel via ship, if good fortune was to bless a voyage. Supporting this theory were the Atlanteans (Xenichthys horribilis) forever hunting for human females with which to breed. A woman impregnated with Xenichthyan roe often gave birth to a strange hybrid of fish and woman- inheriting the Xenichthys’ sonic emanations in their vocal chords, these “mermaids” were able to charm sailors into shipwrecking themselves to be devoured. The mermaids were killed off in the wars between the Atlanteans and the Aztecs/Egyptians, but the crazed sorcerer Y’Shakaa recovered the mummified remains of one from Lemurian ruins. Attempting to resurrect the mermaid to serve him, the spell was beyond Y’Shakaa’s capabilities to properly cast. She rose from the dead as a hideous form of banshee- a powerful spirit of Irish folklore whose scream, or “keen”, could kill. Y’Shakaa promised her eternal rest once she helped him recover the Arcanuum Ex Mysteriuus spell book. Now a Knight of Neo-Lemuria, the banshee answers to “Hagfish”. | |||||||||

Hagfish is happiest in games with lots of players, where her terrible wails can be used to their fullest. The more damage she takes, the more awful her songs become: area-of-effect Sunders and Immolations prove delightful consolation prizes. Her Throw is great for getting Charging Slashers back into the front row for her singing. |
